Rebecca & Eric, February 10, 2017

When I arrived at Rebecca’s parents home, it was a beautiful, sunny day.  You might even have said it was warm for February compared to the usual temperatures we get around here.  Rebecca was radiant and waiting nervously for Eric to arrive.  The house was filled with family, both with siblings and with grandparents who had flown from Holland for the event.  The mood was cheerful and light.

Rebecca hid while Eric and his groomsmen finished pinning on boutonnieres, then let herself out the back gate to meet Eric privately for their first moments of the day together.  The entire family gathered at the windows, straining for a glimpse of the couple, but they were too far to be seen.

I loved the purple tones Rebecca had put together for this wedding.  They looked amazing against the snow and added a happy pop of colour.  (Brides – if you are planning a winter wedding and are unsure about using fake flowers, Rebecca’s bouquets are proof that they can look absolutely stunning and you don’t have to worry about wilting in the cold.)

Can you tell I fell in love with their little ring bearer, Jude?  I didn’t mean to, but working through the raw images afterwards, I found out that approximately half of them were of him.  Oops.

Rebecca and Eric, of all the portraits we took that day, my absolute favourite was the final one of the day.  The ceremony was finished.  The receiving line hugs had been hugged.  You were both a little bit tired and ready to sit down.  I had already packed up my gear and said my good-byes.  Yet seeing that beautiful sunlight streaming through the sanctuary windows…we had one more image to take.  There is something about the quietness of that moment and the warm sun filling up the room.  It was a moment to be together and breathe after all of the decorating and last minute scrambling and cold wind.  It was a little wink of time before you rode off to your reception to celebrate and make speeches but I think everyone needs a little moment like that.  I hope you have many, many more to come.

All bridal portraits taken at the Research Station in Lacombe.
