Jacki & Dylan, June 23, 2017

On a very hot, Alberta summer day, Dylan and Jacki were preparing to be married.   The girls were getting ready at a beautiful ranch style house and there were bright red dresses everywhere.  The flowergirls were adorable in matching heart glasses and tiaras and they clowned for the camera.   Jackie was nervous and it showed.  She managed to hold back the tears up until her father saw her for the first time.

Dylan is a little bit harder to read.  He and his groomsmen goofed off as they prepared to head to the ceremony but I’m preeeetty sure he was nervous as well.  The moment he saw Jacki walking down the aisle toward him, he beamed and Jacki visibly relaxed.

I honestly thought that I had already had my one and only chance to photograph portraits with elk after their engagement session.  Happily, I was wrong.  We headed back to the farm and captured some amazing moments of Jacki and Dylan in a sunny field and knee-high grass while elk grazed in the background.  (Of course, no farm boy’s portraits can be complete without photos with his truck, too.)

The hall was gorgeous and the speeches were great but my favourite part throughout this entire day was when the dinner tables were swapped out for a dance floor in the hall.  We snuck out at sunset for some portraits and Dylan pulled his car out next to the highway for some very cool photos.  I’ll be honest.  I don’t know cars very well but this ride was sweet.  Of course, being right next to the highway, every truck that drove by blared its horn in congratulations.  Beeeeeep.  Looking at those photos, I can still hear it.  Like background music.

Dylan and Jacki, your day was both fun and serious in turns.  I enjoyed getting to know the two of you better and if you ever need more photos with elk…you know where to find me.  I wish you all the best in your marriage and all kinds of happiness.
