Jess and Dan knew my husband long before we met. It’s a good thing he makes a good first impression or I may never have met them myself.
We all hit it off over coffee. We’re weirdly similar and this is the start of something beautiful.
As for their engagement session, they suggested we meet at this little coffee shop in Red Deer called Cafe Vero. What a gem of a place! Not only is it fun and colorful but the barista wrapped up some cookies for Jess and Dan in honour of their engagement, saying, “Because weddings are special.” To calm their early session jitters, I asked Dan to tell Jessica the story of how he proposed over their hot drinks. Dan is a very intentional, thoughtful person and he told the story so sweetly and so seriously that Jessica was welling up with tears. It was lovely.
We followed this up with a visit to MacKenzie Trails in Red Deer where the light was beautiful and the leaves were just beginning to change. Red Deer in autumn is so beautiful and the dark, rich blue that these two were dressed in really made them stand out in all that colour. The connection between Jess and Dan is both cheerful and sincere and while I like to think that I photographed it well, it was actually just so obvious that I couldn’t have missed it.
