Kathy & Scott, August 6, 2016

Kathy and Scott proved to me at their engagement session that they have an eye for fantastic photo locations and details.  Upon arrival, I wasn’t shocked to find that they had picked the most picturesque farm in all of the Red Deer river valley for their first look and bridal party portraits.  When Scott first turned to see Kathy, his face went from shock, followed by amazement, and finally a tiny tear or two may have squeezed out.  After a quick lunch and with everyone in high spirits and fresh boutonnieres on, we headed out in an R.V. for portraits.  Kathy had filled the day with sweet, feminine details.  I absolutely  LOVE the colour she chose for her bridesmaid dresses.

The outdoor ceremony was looking a little bit uncertain with rain clouds in the distance but it turned into a perfect overcast sky.

Unfortunately, Kathy’s sister, Christy, was not able to be present at the wedding.  Immediately after the ceremony, Kathy and Scott video chatted with her.  This was emotional enough to watch and Kathy needed a moment to compose herself before greeting her guests.  Christy further managed to surprise us all when a recording of her maid of honour speech was played at the reception.  It was the most loving, genuine speech ever spoken and Kathy’s parents looked on with tears in their eyes.  I sniffled into my camera gear.  Christy, I’m so looking forward to meeting you someday.

Speeches were a highlight of the reception.  Scott’s mother welcomed Kathy to their family where “normal is just a setting on the dryer.”  I could see it.  Let’s just say that the games played got a little bit…rowdy.  I had a wonderful time photographing the love, acceptance, and good old-fashioned fun between these two families.  I was even convinced to dance for all of thirty seconds, if that tells you anything.

Kathy and Scott, you are one of those couples that everyone should have the privilege of knowing.  Thank you so much for letting me be a part of your day.  I wish you all the best in your marriage and in your future.
