Meghan & Kieran’s Engagement in Downtown Calgary

If you like retro vibes, the Calgary skyline, and evening coffee, this engagement session is for you.  Meghan and Kieran brought all the vibes, from sherpa jackets and denim to that awesome mullet/mustache combo.  We wandered downtown and, because of the lack of snow, found plenty of quirky spots.  These two were up for anything, keeping the shoot light and fun.

This wedding promises more quirky fun and I can’t wait!

Please enjoy.

Kaitlynn & Reid’s Late Autumn Session in Red Deer

I’d met Kaitlynn and Reid when they were married last year.  Now that a full year has passed and they’ve added little Rocket the puppy to their family, it was time for an update!  Rocket even dressed up in a sweater for his photos.

It was a wonderful evening of wandering the trails at Three Mile Bend, enjoying the last of the warm autumn weather, and laughing at Rocket’s antics.  Kaitlynn and Reid – I genuinely enjoyed the chance to catch up and get to know you both better.  Thanks for the laughs!

Calista & Jaden’s Mountain Top Wedding in Pincher Creek

Before this wedding, I had never been to Pincher Creek and but I knew some history of Crowsnest Pass – the Frank Slide and the rum running during prohibition.  When Calista and Jaden’s wedding weekend arrived, I excitedly loaded up my photography gear and headed south.  I arrived well after dark and saw nothing of the views until the next morning.  Wow!  The area was rugged and stunning.

Calista and Jaden chose to marry at Castle Mountain Resort, overlooking those beautiful views.  Being so far into the mountains, autumn was coming early and there was a chill in the air.  The persimmon and sage colours chosen for the day complimented the autumn hues and gave the ladies a rosy look in the crisp air.  There were plenty of tears from bridesmaids, Calista, and even Jaden throughout the ceremony.  He may also have to give a master class on writing vows as I’ve never heard such heartfelt, eloquent vows in all my years of weddings.  If nothing else, those vows alone would have made the tears flow.

We traveled in a caravan to several locations that Calista and Jaden had decided on beforehand and after a brief hike up a hill, I can still hear the gasps from a few of the ladies at the sight of the newlyweds against the mountain backdrop.  “You like straight of a magazine!”  They really did, though.

The day ended with dancing, sunglasses, and DJ lights on the dance floor.  Everyone was having an amazing time and the dancing was still in full swing when I packed up for the night.

Calista and Jaden – thank you for inviting me out to Pincher Creek for your wedding day.  Ten out of ten would do again.

All portraits taken at Castle Mountain Resort, Carbondale Staging Area, and Emerald Lake near Crowsnest Pass.

Stephen & Sandy’s Colourful Calgary Zoo Wedding

Several years ago in the middle of Covid, Sandy and Stephen had formed a long-distance friendship in which they chatted frequently through hours-long video calls.  Sandy had expressing her frustration at not being able to find a wonderful guy in her life and Stephen said, “Well…I like you.”  After a stunned silence, she hung up on him.  That, ladies and gentlemen, was the start of a beautiful relationship that turned into marriage.  They celebrated their love together along with family and friends on a beautiful summer day at the zoo.

We gathered in one of the gardens where a big peacock was proudly strutting loose around the area.  I think he’d claimed that part of the garden because mid-ceremony, this peacock had enough of being ignored and took a stroll right through the front just feet from Stephen and Sandy.  I can still hear all of the gasps.  He was very pleased with himself.

This wedding day was filled with sentimental touches.  For example, the first bouquet of flowers that Stephen ever gave to Sandy was a bouquet of hydrangeas delivered to the door.  Sandy has loved hydrangeas ever since.  Hydrangeas and that periwinkle tone featured throughout the wedding day.  Luckily, we even found a hydrangea bush in a quiet corner of the zoo which we of course used as a backdrop for portraits.

This sweet day ended much more wildly than it began, thanks to the Side One band.  The dance floor was rocking, everyone singing along at the top of their lungs to flashing lights and colours.  It was amazing.

Thanks so much again to both Stephen and Sandy for inviting me into their story and making it such a wonderful day.  You two are sweet and silly.  Baby Adam is a lucky little guy.

All portraits taken at the Calgary Zoo.

Jenn & Colton’s Acreage Engagement in the Autumn Leaves

I’m still in love with Jenn and Colton’s love story.  She was the Hot Sandwich Lady and Colton went out of his way for sandwiches just to see her.  His truck’s back seat was full of uneaten sandwiches when she climbed in for their first date.

Eight years and two kids later, and these two have decided to tie the knot.  They laughed their way through their engagement session and the chaos that comes with kids and a dog at a session.  I’m no family photographer but of course, it was extremely important to take photos as a family, and the kiddos were absolutely adorable and so easygoing.  We scheduled these photos at the height of the autumn season and it was a gorgeous evening in all the colour.

Keep an eye out for their wedding next summer.  It promises to be awesome.
