Shanae and Levi planned the perfect wedding to celebrate their farm backgrounds and farm future together. I don’t think it was quite so intentional but the recurring theme of the evening seemed to be “Farmer’s Daughter” – as in, Levi found and married himself one. Levi got his share of attention too. There were plenty of jokes told about this Ontario boy being a little rough around the edges but Shanae is polishing him up. All in all, these two families were thrilled to see their children come together. So thrilled in fact, that Levi’s own father officiated the wedding and prayed his blessing over it.
The day was wet and rainy for November. I’m thankful for umbrellas and warm coats. After the ceremony, I followed the caravan of green John Deer tractors and blinking orange lights to our portrait site in the Ponoka river valley. We were hard to miss in the rain.
The reception itself was amazing. Shanae and Levi had converted one of the tractor quonsets into their reception space. The walls were lined with flickering candles and the buffet smelled amazing. Speeches were made to the sound of rain drumming on the tin roof. Of course, the entertainment was all about dairy farming. (I particularly enjoyed the singing cow.) The evening ended with a dance, however, this was no ordinary dance. This was a hoedown complete with professional dance instructors. The crowd line danced and two-stepped their hearts out. It was wild!
Shanae and Levi, I just want to say that I had a fantastic time with you and your country wedding. Thank you so much for inviting me in, braving the rain, and putting together such a great day. My wish for you is that you enjoy every minute of your marriage, whether amazing or tough, and keep on serving.
