Jamie & Dayne, June 17, 2017

Jamie and Dayne were wed on a beautiful day near Gull Lake.  They are both clearly adored by their families and friends, and it showed throughout the portraits, speeches, and a million little gestures throughout the day.  Even I was treated like family.  Everything about this day was a creative culmination of who Jamie and Dayne are.  Let me be more specific:

As a journeyman carpenter, Dayne loves woodworking and beautiful wooden details were sprinkled throughout the decor.  He even made the ring box himself and it was carried down the aisle by a little ring bearer with round cheeks.

These two live for travel and crazy adventures.  Rather than signing a guest book, when the guests arrived, they signed a world map.  The crazy adventure part?  That slideshow was filled with photos of their travels to exotic places and surfing.  At the very end of the night, we decided to take some portraits of Jamie and Dayne at Gull Lake as the last of the sunset slipped away.  I suggested that they step into the water.  I was half kidding.  They didn’t bat an eye,  climbed right in, and gave me the opportunity for some of my favourite bride and groom portraits to date.

That coffee bar!  It was amazing.  Provided by friends at Cafe Go, guests were lined up for amazing fresh lattes and other hot drinks.  It was a huge hit.  There was some hinting throughout the night that Jamie likes her coffee.

Jamie had kept and dried the petals from every rose Dayne ever gave her.  These were placed carefully in the flower girl’s basket where she sprinkled them down the aisle right before Jamie’s big entrance.  It was both beautiful and sentimental.

Last but not least, the entire day was centered around Christ.  Jamie made a point of gathering her bridesmaids and parents for prayer in the last moments before leaving for the ceremony.  Each reached out and prayed a heartfelt prayer for her and this new marriage.  This theme continued on throughout the afternoon and evening, often emotional and always sincere.  I really appreciated that it was important to Jamie and Dayne to make space for those vulnerable moments.

Jamie and Dayne, all I have left to say is that I enjoyed pretending to be family for a day and getting to know the two of you so much better.  You proved to me that you are both thoughtful, sincere, and completely goofy.  It’s no wonder that there were so many stories told and tears shed at your wedding.  I wish you the best in your marriage and all those future crazy adventures to come.

All portraits taken at the Gull Lake Centre.
