Sonia & Caroline’s Cozy Elopement at Edmonton’s Rutherford House

Less than a week after we met up for their engagement session, Sonia and Caroline hosted their cozy and elegant elopement at the Rutherford House in downtown Edmonton.  They had traveled all the way from Hong Kong to be legally married in Canada, it was such an honour to be there and witness their love.  The day was intensely hot at the University of Alberta but the manicured gardens and historic backdrop of the Rutherford House more than made up for it. Just before ceremony was set to begin, these beautiful brides helped each other put in their veils, and then they were truly ready.

Their friends sprinkled in, one or two at a time, and gathered at the top of the banister.  Both Sonia and Caroline entered from opposite sides of the stairwell, guided by their mothers, and soon found themselves on the landing, face to face.  They were beaming.  The faces watching over the banisters were beaming too.

After many hugs and portraits with friends and family, we wandered the university grounds.  We had photographed their engagement session at the University of Alberta, so we naturally sought out our favourite spots for their wedding portraits.  The sunlight was so beautiful and the grounds were quiet.  We nearly had the place to ourselves and it was lovely to take a moment and a few deep breaths.

They’ve returned home to Hong Kong since, but we’ve stayed in touch.  Despite flooding in the city and busy days of work and regular life, Sonia and Caroline are so incredibly happy.  That’s the dream.
