Cassidy & Luke, August 27, 2016

Cassidy & Luke started planning their outdoor ceremony space a year before the day.  I don’t just mean they started gathering décor.  I mean, Cassidy dreamed of an outdoor ceremony at dusk overlooking wheat fields and backed by twinkling lights strung between trees.  Luke and his grandfather set aside a corner of his grain field and seeded it with grass.  They planned the exact time to start the ceremony around the moment the sun would set behind the horizon.  They strung the trees with lights and gathered straw bales for seating.  Cassidy thought of everything – mosquito repellent, warm blankets for the chilly evening, a beautiful tulle-wrapped archway, and mason jar candles sprinkled across the lawn.  It was coming together beautifully as their big day approached and when that morning dawned…

It poured rain.

It rained and rained and rained.

And you know what?  Cassidy and Luke were the coolest couple around.  Should they cancel the outdoor ceremony?  Should they just hope for the best?  They had a difficult decision to make and were somehow completely relaxed.

A half hour before their ceremony was to begin, they decided once and for all to go forward with the outdoor site and you know what?  The rain stopped and the dark, cloudy sky brightened with sun just in time to finish prepping the site.  The bridal party and their families quickly uncovered the bales and set out the blankets and décor just in time.  What a gorgeous ceremony it turned out to be!  It was timed perfectly as it was like a dark curtain was pulled just as Cassidy and Luke joyfully came back down the aisle.  I was so thrilled with the lights in the trees that I just had to get a few shots in the dark of Cassidy and Luke.

The theme of the day was “Milk and Honey,” based on Cassidy and Luke’s time working on dairy and bee farms.  I love that personal history!  There were hints of it everywhere.  Cassidy kept warm with a cute little jean jacket and her bridesmaids wore soft, grey cardigans over mint dresses.  The boys were dressed country style in dark jeans and vests.  We had to cut our portrait time short when the rain started up again but the time we had was playful and fun – a few members of the bridal party even snuck carrots from Luke’s grandma’s garden to munch on.

I want to give a shout out to Katie, the bestest assistant from New Brunswick that a girl could ask for!  You rock and it was so much fun having you at my side.

I’m going to wrap this introduction up with a few things from the reception that really stood out to me:

  • Cassidy was welcomed to Luke’s family by giving her a few items she would need – namely, beer and cigarettes.
  • The totally tasty milk and cookie bar!
  • Cassidy’s mom catered the whole event on top of everything else and it was amazing.
  • A totally laid-back bride and groom who didn’t care what happened in the end. They were just so happy to get married.

Thanks so much, guys!  I hope you love your images!
